A friction spindle unit consists of a basic component (4) in which spindles (1) are fitted to rotate at the corners of an equilateral triangle. The spindles (1) have friction discs (3) mutually overlapping at the center of the equilateral triangle. In order to attain higher revolution speeds, it is proposed that there be a drive shaft (9) rotatable about the centre of the equilateral triangle and arranged axially parallel to the spindles (1), between which and each spindle (1) there are means (19) for torque transmission.
