The appts. includes a pulsed laser pump (10), an optical parameter oscillator or power amplifier (12), and a master oscillator (14). A beam splitter (18) is also provided which separates the pump impulse into respective amplifier (22) and master oscillator (20) pump impulses. The amplifier is formed form non-linear material and the impulse which pumps it has been passed through a delay path (24). The master oscillator produces a narrow bandwidth beam (16) which is injected into the amplifier as a seed beam. In the delay path between the pump laser and the amplifier are e.g. two optical lenses which convert the phase and amplitude of the amplifier pulse light.
