Level-surface dimension measurement system for measuring floor areas of rooms and other enclosed sites

The measurement system has range finders mounted on a carrier which moves in a straight line, one range finder (2.1) periodically measuring the reducing distance between the carrier as it moves towards boundary (4.1) of the surface and a second rangefinder (2.2) measuring the increasing distance to the opposite boundary (4.2). Two rangefinder pairs (2.3,2.5 and 2.4,2.6), spaced apart by a distance (A), which corresponds approximately to the length of the carrier in the movement direction, periodically measure the distances to the boundaries at ninety degrees to the direction of movement. All the rangefinders are linked to the output unit via the store and processor and the measurement times are determined by a pulse generator. All the measured values for a specific measurement time are summed and the information relating to size and peripheral geometry can be called up from the output unit.
