<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the total amount of mercury to be used. SOLUTION: This apparatus comprises mercury, a mercury-donating intermetallic compound A containing a second metal selected from titanium, zirconium, and their mixture, and an accelerator B containing preferably one or more metals selected from Ti3 Hg, copper, tin, and rare earth elements, especially a misch metal-containing alloy or intermetallic compound. A mercury- donating material, especially a material further containing a getter material C, is obtained for the apparatus. The mercury donor is introduced into an opened electron tube and after the electron tube is sealed, the mercury donor is heated at 600-900 deg.C for 10 seconds to 1 minute to have mercury emitted.</p> |
