PURPOSE: To reduce toner consumption by selecting a black level area rate of exposure object black level pixels to be a prescribed black level area rate when a white level pixel is included in prescribed surrounding pixels by a discrimination means and controlling the black level area rate of the exposure object black level pixel to be a specific rate when the prescribed surrounding pixels are only black level pixels. CONSTITUTION: A recording I/F processing section 7 controls a black level area rate of black level pixels received by a recording section 8. In this case, when white level pixels are included in prescribed surrounding pixels of the black level pixels with respect to the exposure object black pixels a black level area rate representing an area of toner deposition in an area of the exposure object black level pixels is selected to be a prescribed black level area rate smaller than 100%, e.g. 40-60%. When no white level pixel is in existence and only black pixels are in existence, the black level area rate is selected to be close to nearly a fully black level such as 90 to 100%. Thus, the amount of toner deposited on characters is reduced and the toner consumption is decreased. |
