A seal which can be used in both the mating plane and in fixed or hinged glazing consists of a sealing section (1) with a shaped basic body (3) and a securing wedge (2). A sealing bead (4) and a sealing lip (5) are formed on the side of the basic body (3) opposite the securing wedge (2), with a nose (6) allocated to the end of the sealing bead (4). These parts of the sealing section (1) consist of a thermoplastic rubber. They are to be secured to the semi-finished closure or the window shortly after extrusion, i.e. at the manufacturer's premises. The semi-finished product concerned can be cut and welded at the window factory so that the sealing sections (1) are joined at the corner region at the same time, thus ensuring all-round sealing. This totally eliminates the need for the "pressing in of the sealing section" stage in manufacture.
