OPTICAL STAR COUPLER

PURPOSE: To provide an optical star coupler with a branching function and equal distribution function which is low in loss, small in size and low in cost. CONSTITUTION: This optical star coupler has a waveguide 102 for input which consists of at least one piece of channel waveguides formed on a substrate 101, a slab waveguide 103 which are connected to this waveguide 102 for input and equally distributes the signal light of a certain wavelength band and a waveguide 105 for output which is connected to this slab waveguide 103 and consists of at least one piece of channel waveguides. An array waveguide diffraction grating 104 consisting of plural channel waveguides 115 is connected to the slab waveguide 103 so that the signal light of other wavelength bands from the waveguide 102 for input are branched by each of wavelengths.
