The machine is designed to move normally in the way that some multi-legged insects such as spiders move. It has a central body from which project on each side, three articulated legs which can move in the forward and backward direction relative to the body and up and down. The legs are formed in separate sections whereby each section is joined to the next by a hinge arrangement comprising two inter-connecting rollers which allow movement relative to each other of 360 degrees. The machine can operate when tipped over as at least three of the legs can be used facing the opposite direction to allow it to continue walking. The legs can also operate in a vertical mode to allow it to pass through narrow gaps.
