The matrix has a number of inputs (e1-eN) and a number of outputs (s1-sN). The inputs have modulators (183, 184) which modulate cells destined for the same output on an optical carrier as the have a wavelength allocated to this output. The cells are then switched along Q paths with delays 0, 1 - (Q-1). A number of supplementary outputs (sN+1-sN+k) lead to a controllable delay element (104) whose outputs can be connected to a recirculation input. A wavelength converter can added between these components to selectively change the carrier wavelength and increase by FDM the number of cells which can be delayed. |
