A vehicle drive arrangement comprises an electric motor (5), power switches (45) switching field windings (23) of the motor (5) and a cooling device (47) cooling the field windings (23) and the power switches (45) through a coolant circuit (49). The electric motor (5) comprises a first modular structural unit (3) which is adapted to function mechanically in itself. The power switches are located in at least one second modular unit (7, 9) which is connected firmly to the first modular unit (3) to form a drive unit (1). The individual modular units are separable from one another and connected together through releasable electric separation terminals (85) and through releasable coolant separation connections (63). This construction makes it possible to extend the drive unit (1) as required by using further modular units or in the event of faults to be able to exchange individual modular units without having to replace the entire drive unit (1). Multiple electric motor modular units may be present.
