PURPOSE: To always stably and accurately discriminate the material of a member to be discriminated and distinguish it from different materials without depending on how much the operator is skilled. CONSTITUTION: This device for discriminating materials is provided with an image processing device 5 having a CCD camera 4 for photographing sparks 3 and setting the number of lines of sparks 3 through the processing of an image taken by the CCD camera 4, and is also provide with a controller 6 which discriminates the material of steel 1 in accordance with information from the image processing device 5. For each of plural pieces of steel 1, the numbers of lines of sparks 3 stored in the storage portion 7 of the controller 6 are compared to discriminate the material of the steel 1 relatively as to the plural pieces so as to facilitate discrimination of the material of the steel 1, so as to always stably and accurately discriminate the material of the steel 1 and discriminate it from different materials without depending on how much the operator is skilled. |
