<p>An adjustable support device (1) for levelling a ladder including a latch housing (3) having a recess (4) for the slidable engagement of an extendible leg (5). The latch housing (3) is secured to the stile of a ladder by a mounting means (17) secured to the base of the latch housing (3). The extendible leg (5) has at least one and preferably a plurality of notches (9) arranged longitudinally along the extendible leg (5). A latch means including a pawl (11) pivotally mounted on a release member (10) is slidably mounted on the latch housing (3). Longitudinal movement of the release member (10) relative to the latch housing (3) causes the pawl (11) to pivot within the latch guide (12) from an engaged to a disengaged position. Preferably extension of the extendible leg (5) also disengages the pawl and movement to shorten the leg engages the latch means. The extendible leg of the invention is able to be extended by movement of the foot of the extendible leg (5) longitudinally away from the latch housing (3) and stile (2) and can only be shortened by disengaging the latching means by movement of the release member (10).</p> |
