A wastewater pretreatment tank assembly (10) reduces the amount of sludge in household sewage before the wastewater is introduced into a municipal sewage treatment system. Bacteria and enzymes (25) are added to the wastewater (19) in a first chamber (19) of the tank or shell (11), where the sludge is digested. Then the wastewater spills over a weir (18) into a second chamber (21) where ammonia is stripped. The wastewater can be aerated, and then chlorinated (43) in a third chamber (22) from which the treated wastewater is discharged via an overflow pipe (23). A bypass conduit (27) is periodically opened for flushing sludge residue from the digestion chamber (19). The pretreatment of household sewage reduces the burden on the municipal sewage treatment facility.
|
