The time during which a segment or group of teeth (3) of the transducer wheel (2) corresp. to a defined piston cycle passes a sensor (4) is measured to determine the cylinder-selective current engine speed. The measured time is a direct reciprocal measure of the engine speed. The time for a complete wheel rotation and each segment time are measured. The measured total time is divided by the number of segments to produce a theoretical, equal segment time for each segment. Correction factors for each cylinder are derived by forming the ratios of the measured and theoretical segment times. USE/ADVANTAGE - For use with transducer wheels for feeding engine controllers. Existing method is developed to enable error correction and detection.
