<p>The proposed method of creating spark discharges in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine involves the application of a voltage to the primary winding (2) of the ignition coil (1) and the formation of at least one current pulse of the required amplitude in the primary winding (2). The voltage is adjusted to ensure that the time taken by each current pulse in the primary winding (2) to reach the desired amplitude is substantially less than the time needed to burn a portion of the working mixture. The moment at which the first current pulse starts to be formed is made to coincide with the moment at which the triggering ignition pulse arrives, and the moment at which each successive current pulse starts to be formed is made to coincide with the moment at which the high voltage pulse in the secondary winding (5) ends, said high voltage pulse having been generated by a preceding current pulse in the primary winding (2); the formation of each current pulse ends with its interruption at the moment at which the desired current amplitude is reached, thereby limiting the rate of change of the current. The proposed device comprises an ignition coil (1), a step-up voltage transformer (4), a spark plug (6), an electronic switch (7), a reference pulse generator (8), a system for limiting the rate of change of the current in the primary winding (2) and a unit for limiting the time of generation of the pulse packets.</p> |
