PURPOSE:To compact a device so as to reduce the number of part items by providing a movable holding member which sandwiches an elastic seal ring of V-shaped cross section between it and a sealing device main body along the direction of the axis of the ring to deform the ring, and a fluid pressure actuator for moving the movable holding member along the direction of the axis. CONSTITUTION:While a rotating shaft 1 is being stopped, a movable holding member 8 is pressed upwards by a pressure spring 10 and a V-shaped seal ring 7 is sandwiched between the annular projection 12a of a main body member 12 and the annular recess 8b of the movable holding member 8 along the direction of its axis. Since each projection 12a and the recess 8b have their inclination angles set to greater values, the seal ring 7 is deformed in a direction in which its bore becomes smaller than before the pressing, and the seal ring 7 makes contact with the rotating shaft 1, creating a complete seal. This seal prevents oil leaks and entering of dust. To rotate the rotating shaft 1, compressed air is supplied from the inlet 15a of a fluid supply passage 15 to a fluid pressure chamber 9 during startup, so as to lower the movable holding member 8 against the pressure spring 10. |
