PURPOSE:To simply measure characteristics of an optical amplifier for optical communication, by separating and detecting the output optical power of an optical amplifier to be measured which synchronizes with the time region in which an optical pulse signal exists, and the output optical power of an optical amplifier to be measured which synchronizes with the time region an which the optical pulse signal does not exist. CONSTITUTION:A modulation signal generating part 4 delivers outputs Q and Q to an electrooptical transducer 2 and an optical switch 3, respectively. The transducer 2 obtains an input light 3' by the modulation using the output Q. The input light 3' is delivered to an optical amplifier 1 to be measured. The output as the sum of the amplified input light and ASE optical power is inputted in an optical switch 3 which is driven the output Q. Out of the output lights of the optical switch 3, only the part corresponding with the time region in which an optical pulse signal does not exist is transmitted, and the part corresponding with the time region in which the optical pulse signal exists is blocked. The output 5' of the optical switch 3 is inputted in an optical spectrum analyzer 5, and ASE optical output PASE is obtained. The noise figure NF is obtained by using the equation in figure. |
