The desired speed of a driven shaft is determined by adjustment of potentiometer 37 which controls the energization of coupling-coil FC. The shaft carries an A.C. tachometer generator G1, connected to rectifier 23 and filter network 24, whose output comprises a composite signal having a ripple component. Transistor T2 conducts only when the instantaneous value of the composite signal is less than the reference potential derived from potentiometer 37. The resulting pulses at the output of transistor T2 are amplified by transistor T3 and applied to the base of power transistor T4 which is pulsed repetitively between its conductive and non-conductive states. The average power supplied to the coil FC is thereby regulated to maintain the speed of the driven shaft at the desired value. A regulated power supply for the potentiometer 37 comprises diodes 41, 43 connected to winding 49 of a power transformer or driving motor. A filter network consists of resistor 53 and capacitor 55, a voltage-regulating transistor T1 being associated with Zener diode 59. |
