In numerical controllers, two-stage interpolations are undertaken to convert a curve path into desired values. In the first stage, coarse interpolation, track points are determined between which intermediate points are laid down in the second stage, fine interpolation. In a normal linear fine interpolation there thus results a chord path having deviations from the ideal contour and kinks. The invention describes a method for fine interpolation which firstly reduces kinks and thus enables smooth courses of the initial values but also enables an improved approximation to the ideal course with a few simple process steps. <IMAGE>
