The invention relates to an electrical switch, in particular a motor protective circuit breaker, having a switching-on pushbutton and having a switching-off pushbutton, the two of which interact by means of a latching mechanism which essentially consists of a toggle joint which is guided in a link of the switching-on pushbutton, of a two-limbed switching lever one of whose limbs is connected to one lug of the toggle joint and whose other limb is connected to a switching crossmember, and of a latching lever which is connected to the other lug of the toggle joint. The invention is characterized by a one-armed latching lever (12) which is driven by the switching lever (4), is pivoted about a fixed bearing point (11) and does not release the switching-on pushbutton (3) if the switching pieces (6) are stuck in the switching-off or tripping case.
