METHOD AND EQUIPMENT FOR HANDWRITTEN CHARACTER RECOGNITION

PURPOSE: To provide the handwritten character recognition method and device therefor. CONSTITUTION: The characters are inputted by a character input means 18 and digitized by a proper means 16. The digitized characters are stored in a memory, for example. The codes showing the phases and vector features of characters are extracted out of the characters and compared with the standard phase and vector feature stored in the memory. Each of a pair of reference characters corresponds to a specific handwritten character. Then a logical process is carried out to decide the standard feature of a specific pair that best corresponds to the phase features of digitized characters, and the handwritten characters are identified. It is possible to accurately recognize various types of handwritten characters by changing the relative weighting between the phase and vector effects.
