The invention consists of a device for reversing the direction of flat consignments, with a first and a second device which each have conveying means for feeding the consignments at a first speed and further conveying means for discharging the consignments at a second speed, the first and second device and a deceleration stage for decelerating the consignments according to a predetermined speed profile being connected on the entry side to a first conveyor stage by means of switches, consignments, the direction of which is to be reversed, being fed alternately to the first and second device and consignments not to be reversed being fed to the deceleration stage, and the said devices and deceleration stage being connected on the exit side to a second conveyor stage.
