PURPOSE:To provide an optical coupler in which one-to-many signal transmission can be attained, and plural channels are integrated. CONSTITUTION:In plural diffusion type or embedded type planar waveguides 12 lined in parallel, diffraction grating couplers 14 are provided in the waveguide structure, the arrays of photodiodes 16 are arranged on the surface or back face of a substrate 10 in parallel to the waveguide direction, and a mode outgoing from the diffracting grating couples 14 is received by the photodiodes 16 in an optical coupler. In the optical coupler, one-to-many data transmission can be attained, and the plural channels are provided. Also, the waveguide structure is used for the optical coupler, so that a crosstalk less than the optical coupler using data transmission by spatial propagation can be realized, a distance between light emitting elements and the photodiodes 16 can be arbitrarily set, and the number of the photodiodes 16 can be arbitrarily decided. |
