In the case of a conventional mattress, the arms, lying under the body, take a considerable part of the body weight. Since the area of the arms which come into contact with the mattress is small, the pressure exerted on them is large. For this reason, comfortable lying in this position is made difficult. The object of this lying method is to enlarge the bearing surface of the body to reduce the pressure load. This mattress (1) comprises an upper part (2), in which channels (3) for insertion of the arms are provided on the left and right, and the lower part (4) which possesses wide gaps (5) enabling the movement of the arms on a horizontal plane. The simple original mattress makes possible comfortable lying in side positions and the prone position and is especially suitable for hospitals and nursing homes. The possibility of using it as an ordinary mattress by turning it over, as well as its exceptional freedom of movement, make it suitable for any bedroom. <IMAGE>
