PURPOSE:To provide an electric discharge lamp lighting device capable of easily hot-restarting without complicated circuit constitution. CONSTITUTION:A first electric discharge means 70 generates glow discharge in an electric discharge lamp 100. Second electric discharge means 30, 50 generate arc discharge in the electric discharge lamp 100. An electric discharge controller 80 shifts electric discharge from the glow discharge to the arc discharge at the time of starting, while from the arc discharge to the glow discharge at the time of extinguishing and controls the first and second discharge means 70, 30, 50 in such a manner as to keep the glow discharge for a predetermined time. |
