Medical apparatus for therapeutically and/or prophylactically treating a blood-circulation abnormality in a patient's leg. The apparatus is provided with an inflatable cuff (11) for application of inflation pressure to the calf of a leg of the patient together with an inflatable foot pump (14) for application of inflation pressure at the plantar region between the ball and heel of the foot, and control means (12) therefor whereby to intermittently provide an applied torniquet action to the leg such as to reduce the availability of superficial veins to carry the venous return flow that is stimulated by the foot pump action, but at the same time being insufficient to materially affect access to deep veins which are the primary target of therapeutic or prophylactic treatment. |
