Genes that encode a surface protein of p. carinni

Seven unique genes encoding the major surface glycoprotein of rat P. carinii, which is related to the major surface antigen of P. carinii which is a life-threatening opportunistic pathogen in HIV-infected patients, have been cloned and sequenced. Genes encoding for the major surface glycoprotein of human P. carinii and vaccines containing the human P. carinni antigen can be prepared to prevent or control P. carinii infection.
