A laminated insulating panel comprises outer layers having flat uninterrupted outer surfaces and inwardly projecting parallel ribs between which is a distinct layer of insulating material. The ribs are arranged so that they do not touch each other or the opposite layer. The outer layers may be metal, e.g. aluminium, asbestos concrete, plastics, e.g. glass fibrereinforced polyester, ceramics or expanded clay. The insulating material may be plastic bound mineral wool, e.g. glass wool, or foam, e.g. phenolic resin or polyurethane foam. The layers may be bonded together by silicate glue, phenolic resin, resocinol formaldehyde or polyurethane foam. The panel may be formed by pressing pre-formed outer layers, with the insulating material, which may be extruded and grooved to correspond to the ribs of the outer layers, between them, through rollers and if desired heaters to set any plastic material. Alternatively the layer of insulating material may be formed by foaming in situ. The outer layers may be extruded. |
