A motorcycle helmet (11) with a brake light (14) includes a duty cycled receiver circuit (15) for receiving a radio frequency (RF) signal from a transmitter (21) located on the motorcycle. The receiver circuit (15) is generally turned off if the RF signal is not present. When the receiver (15) detects the RF signal, the receiver (15) is turned on. The brake light (14) is illuminated when the receiver (15) receives the RF signal. The brake light (14) includes LEDs (52) for providing light. The lens (50) is a plastic lens which provides superior performance having spherical indentation (58) on an interior surface.
