Iron in which, in order to achieve instantaneous production of steam, the water which is contained in a reservoir 11 incorporated in the iron falls dropwise inside a vaporization chamber 2 installed on the inside of the soleplate 1 of the iron in association with the heating resistance element of the said soleplate 1, the water vapour thus formed being conveyed to the outside via a plurality of holes 7 in the soleplate 1. In accordance with the invention, the iron consists of two parts 1, 10 which are fitted together in such a manner that they can be separated. One of the said parts comprises substantially the body 10 of the iron with the handle 110 and a water reservoir 11, while the other part comprises the soleplate 1 of the iron with the electrical resistance element and the associated vaporization chamber 2. <IMAGE>
