At least two conical inner treatment vessels, whose sides are inclined at 60 or more degrees to the horizontal, are located in an outer vessel and are connected by adjsutable pipes or open channels to a common outlet. The narrow lower ends of the inner vessels may project below the floor of the outer vessel. Each of the inner vessels is provided with an outlet from the outer vessel. Aeration and/or circulation devices are provided in the outer vessel. The outer vessel acts as an activated sludge vessel, while the inner vessels are sedimentation vessels. Further inner vessels may have different functions such as clarification, denitrification etc. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in the biological, mechanical and/or chemical treatment of waste waters. A compact combined system of vessels is provided which can encompass many different treatment processes and stages in a single unit.
