A memory device for providing extra memory capabilities to a computer while conserving address space is pin-compatible with a standard 27512 EPROM. In addition to providing non-volatile storage functionally equivalent to a 27512 EPROM, the device also provides one kilobyte of EEPROM storage. The memory device may be used in place of any 27512, 27256, 27128, or 2764 EPROM device, and provides read/write non-volatile storage transparent to the operation of the EPROM. <IMAGE>
