DEVICE FOR CONNECTING A COMPUTER INTO A TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK, AND A PROCEDURE FOR ADAPTING THE BIT RATE IN THIS DEVICE

The invention concerns a device for connecting a computer (R) into a public or private digital telecommunications network (OF; PF) for the purpose of exchanging data between the computer (R) and other data-transmission and data-reception devices (EA, ED) connected up with the network (OF; PF). The computer (R) is connected up with the network (OF; PF) by means of an interface assembly (SB) and at least one primary-rate connection. The high data-transfer rate required by the primary-rate connection is achieved in the modular-design interface assembly (SB) with a parallel computing unit, for which transputers, for instance, may be used. Also described is a sofware-base procedure, implemented in the parallel computing unit, for adapting the bit rate. The computer (R) is connected to the interface assembly (SB) by means of a bus system (B), e.g. the Multibus (I).
