4-Benzoyl isoxazole derivatives of the formula I: <CHEM> wherein: R represents alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, haloalkyl, haloalkenyl, haloalkynyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl, -CO2R<3>,-COR<5>,cyano,nitro, -CONR<3><1>R<4> or a halogen atom; R<1> represents :- hydrogen , alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, haloalkyl, haloalkenyl, haloalkynyl or optionally substituted cycloalkyl R<2> represents :- halogen, R<5>, -SR<5>, -SOR<5>, -SO2R<5>, -SO2NR<3><1>R<4>,-CO2R<3>, -COR<5>, -CONR<3><1>R<4>, -CSNR<3><1>R<4>, -OR<5>, a nitro group, a cyano group, a group -O(CH2)q-OR<5> or alkyl substituted by OR<5>; R<3>, R<3><1> and R<4>, which may be the same or different, each represents:- hydrogen, alkyl or haloalkyl; R<5> represents alkyl or haloalkyl; n represents an integer from 1 to 5; and q represents an integer from 1 to 3; and agriculturally acceptable salts thereof and their use as herbicides is described. |
