<p>PURPOSE:To obtain much more silent compression effect and to reduce delay time of variable rate voice CODEC for use in an ATM communication system by coding voice data at a variable coding rate to prepare cell, and cellulating the variable voice CODEC to be sent to the ATM network in only a sound section. CONSTITUTION:The present variable rate voice CODEC is provided with an ADPCM coder 101 for coding input voice information, a cell assembly section 102 for cellulating voice information coded by the ADPCM coder 101, and a voice detector 103 for identifying whether or not voice information input to the ADPCM coder 101 is maintained to have sound throughout a period of time ranging from the start of the cellulation to the end of the cellulation and for sending the identified information to the cell assembly section 102, whereby the cell assembly section 102 sends only the cell identified to be sound by the voice detector 103 to the transmission path.</p> |
