DATA COMPRESSION USING FEED-FORWARD QUANTIZING INFERENCE DEVICE

PURPOSE: To obtain an optimum S/N ratio and to operate the system at real time by repeating estimation processing plural times and using obtained values as test values for succeeding estimation. CONSTITUTION: A block shuffler 10 receives a digital video signal 1 and rearranges a data block in each video field. The rearranged video data are transformed into a spatial frequency area signal by a two-dimensional discrete cosine transformation circuit 15. The transformed data coefficient is delayed by a delay 20. An estimator 9 repeatedly selects a test quantization parameter for a 1st data set to determine the number of bits to be generated by an encoder 45. Data transferred through a channel formater 46 are supplied to a deformater 50. A decoder 55 decodes the data so as to extend the data to an original level. A reverse transformation unit 60 rearranges the data as video data.
