Method of producing deep drawn cans from sheet consists of drawing the can in a first stage using a drawing ring provided with a recessed front end. During this stage only the drawing opening part whose diameter corresponds to that of the can is used to produce a can part with the finished length and diameter. In the second stage the side edge located between the ring and holder is moved downwards to shape the step-like edge by deforming it between recessed part and stepped stamp.
