Electrolytic cells are connected to a resonant electrical circuit comprising a capacitance and an inductance in parallel across an a.c. supply. Only a small operating current supply is thereby required. The cells may be for evolution of gases such as hydrogen and oxygen by electrolysis (Figs. 1-3 not shown), for plating or evolving solids from solutions and metallic ores, or the cell may be a battery for charging (Fig. 4 not shown). Rectification of the alternating output current from the resonant circuit may be provided. The supply may be mains, solar cells, wind power supply or combinations thereof, Hydrogen produced may be stored, the oxygen being used to support combustion when hydrogen is used as a fuel.
|
