The chain-type transmission for a bicycle according to the present invention comprises a crank (4) mounted in a bearing block (30) located on the outer side of a pedal assembly chain wheel (3) and connected to a lateral projection (231) of a ball bearing (23) which is mounted on an assembly piece which is mounted eccentrically on the spindle of the pedal assembly of the bicycle. Rotation of the assembly piece (20) entrains the ball bearing (23) in order to make it revolve eccentrically and to entrain the crank such that its lever arm changes length automatically in order to reduce energy consumption during pedalling as far as possible. <IMAGE> |
