PURPOSE:To improve range finding accuracy by extracting a range finding zone corresponding to each object distance among the whole image information obtained by respective photodetecting element arrays and calculating the object distance corresponding to each object based upon the time information of the extracted range finding zone. CONSTITUTION:A range finding zone corresponding to each object distance, e.g. image data corresponding to an object C existing in a far distance, image data corresponding to an object B existing in a medium distance, or image data corresponding to a subject A existing in a near distance, is extracted from among the while image information obtained from a pair of photodetecting element arrays 1, 2 consisting of photoelectric conversion elements such as CCDs. A distance 2 between respective range finding zones is calculated to execute range finding operation. Consequently, range finding having the degree of freedom can be highly accurately executed over a wide range independent of window width. |
