The cover for a skylight slides in an inclined plane parallel to the roof angle. A roof frame (1) is joined to the skylight (0.9) and includes the rafters, top and bottom frame sections fixed together, and top and bottom transverse yokes (1.3,1.4). Metal slats (1.5) reinforce the transverse joints of the frame and support tiles with sheet metal angle pieces and lead flashings for free water run-off. The sliding window(2) forming part of the cover, is coupled via wire ropes (1.11) and pulleys (1.12) to a counterweight (3). If the skylight extends horizontally towards the gable end, the counterweight is omitted, with the window in one or more sections sliding horizontally.
