PURPOSE:To obtain a friction material excellent in mechanical strengths and fading resistance by molding a mixture of a metallic fiber, a specified filler and a specified binder and heat-treating the molding under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A metallic fiber (e.g. steel fiber) is mixed with a filler such as graphite or an inorganic powder and a binder comprising a thermosetting resin such as phenolic resin, and the obtained mixture is molded, heat-treated in a low-oxygen atmosphere of an O2 concentration of 0.1-10% under conditions of a temperature of 250 to below 1250 deg.C and a time of 15min to below 4hr. |
