GEVAERT AG 19 April 1971 [21 Feb 1970] 20432/71 Heading B8C A loaded film cassette of plastics material is sealed by spraying the cassette body and U- shaped cover at the joins with a predetermined amount of solvent. As shown in Fig. 3, the lowest of a stack of cassettes 10 in a magazine 15 is thrust by a piston 16 into a receiver 19 on a stepwise rotatable disc 18 from which it is thrust into a spraying station 21 by a piston 22. As shown in Fig. 5, the spraying station 21 comprises a receiver 24 supplied with solvent through a plurality of plug connectors 37, small bore tubes 35 and bores in discs 32, 34 and a packing 33 from piston and cylinder devices 27, 28, 29. The piston-rods 27 are held on a disc 26 which is movable vertically by means of a piston 40 acting through a lever 41, pawl (42), and ratchet-wheel (43). The quantity of solvent dispensed can be adjusted by adjusting the position of the pivot point 44 by which the piston 40 and lever 41 are connected. The cylinders 29 are refilled by means of the packing 33 which in one angular position allows solvent to pass from the cylinders 29 to the tubes 35, and in a second angular position allows solvent to flow from a reservoir into the cylinders 29. The solvent on the cassette dries, or further treatment may be carried out, as the cassette travels around the angleαin the disc 18 before being ejected by a piston 57. The operation of disc 18 is controlled by feeler devices 20 and 25 in receivers 19 and 24 respectively. In a modification (Fig. 8, not shown), one double measuring cylinder (52) replaces the plurality of piston and cylinder devices 27, 28, 29, the cylinder being supplied with solvent from a reservoir (50) under constant pressure and being discharged into a connection piece (56) through offset bores (55) when both bores are freed by the double piston (53). The quantity of solvent sprayed can be adjusted by varying the speed of the piston (53) or the liquid pressure. |
