1427341 Liquid soap composition UNILEVER Ltd 21 May 1973 [22 May 1972] 23977/72 Heading C5D A creamy liquid soap composition comprises essentially a fine suspension of potassium stearate/palmitate crystallites in an aqueous glycerine solution, wherein the ratio by wt. of glycerol to water is from 3 : 7 to 5 : 5. The composition comprises 12 to 40% of the potassium soaps of saturated fatty acids having predominantly 12, 16 and 18 carbon atoms in the molecule, 20-40% of glycerol and 20-55% of water. Preferably the compositions contain 7-20% of potassium laurate and 5-20% of potassium C 16 -C 18 saturated fatty acid soaps. Up to 10% of free fatty acids may be present, The viscosity may be increased by the addition of a thickening agent including a sodium soap. The composition is prepared by mixing glycerol and water, heating the mixture to 65-85‹ C., adding potassium hydroxide and, if desired, sodium hydroxide and, while stirring and heating to form a clear solution, subsequently adding the fatty acids in two steps, firstly, the C 12 fatty acids and then the C 16 -C 18 fatty acids, after which the mass is cooled carefully at a temperature drop of not more than 10‹ C. per hour.
