1-Heterocyclylarylsulphonyl-3-heterocyclyl-urea and -thiourea derivs. of formula J-E-SO2NH-CW-NR-A (I) and their salts are prepd. by reacting JSO2NCW and ANHR in the presence of inactive non-protonic solvet. In the formulas, J is gp. of formula (II)(VII); W is O or S; G is O, S, SO or SO2; m is 0 or 1; n is 0, 1 or 2; R is H or Me; E is single bond, CH2 or O; Q is substd. tetrazole gp. (I) are useful as broad spectrum pre- and postemergent selective herbicides and plant growth regulants.
