The shadow mask is mounted next to a screen with phosphor strips. It has numerous slit-shaped apertures in columns over its rectangular configuration, whose periphery has two opposite long sides and two opposite short ones. The main axis (X-X) passes through the mask center and the centres of the short sides, while a secondary axis (Y- Y) passes through the mask centre and the centres of both long sides. The aperture columns extend in the direction of the secondary axis with spaces along the main axis direction. The spacing between the aperture gaps near the secondary axis at the long sides is smaller than that near the main axis. Near the mask corners the aperture column spacing is greater than that near the main axis.
