As new industrial products, submicron latex particles coated with an immunological substance chosen from antigens and respectively antibodies, the said particles, which are useful in immunological assays of the antigen/antibody type, being characterised in that: a) their mean diameter d is smaller than 200 nm, b) the latex of the said particles comprises a reactive functionality ensuring the covalent binding of the said immunological substance, c) the said particles coated with the said immunological substance in suspension in an aqueous liquid medium being invisible when they are exposed to a radiation which has a wavelength lambda greater than the mean diameter d of the said particles, and d) the said particles coated with the said immunological substance in suspension in the said aqueous liquid medium becoming "visible" by agglutination when they are exposed to the said radiation after being brought into contact with a substance chosen from the antibodies and respectively the antigens corresponding to the said immunological substance bound on the said particles.
