PURPOSE:To obtain the above head which is of a narrow track and produces high output by setting the thickness of bulk yoke plates at the track width of a magnetic gap which transfers and receives signal magnetic fields. CONSTITUTION:The bulk yoke plates 1 are constituted of magnetic ferrite and a nonmagnetic member 2 which magnetically separates the two yokes is constituted of glass, etc. The magnetic gap 3 sliding on the medium surface is constituted of a nonmagnetic material, such as, for example, glass or SiO2. The yoke plates 1 are adhered onto a nonmagnetic substrate 4 consisting of Al2O3, ceramics, etc., by using an adhesive agent or glass, etc. The ferrite yokes after the adhesion are subjected to surface polishing to the thickness 7 required and sufficient as the track width. The surfaces of the ferrite yokes 1, 1 are polished to specular surfaces and protective films of Al2O3, SiO2, etc., are formed by sputtering on the ferrite yokes 1, 1 after polishing at need.
