METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FORMING CUPS OF EXPANDED RESIN

Thin wall cups of expanded resin are molded in a preforming mold (2) and a finish-mold (3) in a pressure chamber (1), the interior of which being pressurized. The beads of expandable resin are expanded and fused together to produce a preformed article. The preform is transferred to a finish forming mold located in the pressure chamber so as to carry out a predetermined finishing treatment which includes compressing the preformed article to reduce the thickness to form a thin walled article. The air present between the finish forming mold and the preform is exhausted to the outside of the mold before the article is compressed.
