The switch has a housing enclosing a character drum (3) which is indexed in either rotary direction via a pair of push-button rods (4,4'), which are acted on by respective resetting springs (47,47'). A radially displaced ratchet element (44) lies between the 2 push-button rods (4,4') acted on by a ratchet springs (46,48), each of those components, together with the resetting springs (47,47') provided by a one-piece plastics injection moulding. Pref. the ratchet element (44) is symmetrical to the symmetry axis (7) passing through the axis (5) of the drum (3) and is displaced in the direction of the symmetry axis (7).
